May 13th 2022 - The Ethics Commissioner (the “Commissioner”) issues guidelines for staff of Members and House Officers of the National Assembly regarding partisan activities.
Although the rules applicable to Member staff do not specifically address the issue of partisan activities, political staff must pay attention to them as well as to the ethical principles that must guide their conduct. These guidelines are intended to inform Member staff of certain activities that cannot be carried out in the performance of their duties. Examples are provided to feed their reflection.
These guidelines apply at all times when staff members are performing their duties, including the period following the call of any election at the provincial level. They also cover all communications made by a staff member, including those made on social media.
Members of the political staff are invited to contact the Commissioner for any questions relating to their situation.
